VERY RARE, EARLY HANDMADE STERLING PENDANT
BY BOB WINSTON This is a masterpiece by mid 20th American studio jeweler, Bob Winston; a magnificent, large sterling pendant that I feel is a transition piece between Winston's handwrought work of the 1950s and his later cast pieces of the early to mid 1960s; pendant is about 7" tall x slightly over 4" wide; mid section is topped with a thick pink stone or glass that is convex on the reverse and actually moves back and forth across the cast top section like a magnifier; the piece is in great condition with wonderful patina. This piece is pictured in Oppi Untract's book, Metal Techniques for Craftsmen, (pub.1968), on page 338 with the caption, "Pendant by Bob Winston. The upper, circular form was created by a type of casting called "core" casting (carving directly in the investment, then casting) and is decorated with forged wire elements. SOLD (item #SMMW002) |
