SHIMON BROOCH WITH ORIGINAL PAINTING

This is one of my favorite Winfield pieces--a detailed painting by New York illustrator Shimon, c.1946, that includes what looks like a small turquoise cabochon in some sort of bezel; about 4" x 3-1/2" (at the widest section); signed in the painting: "SHIMON, 1946" and inscribed on the back: "Designed by Shimon, WINFIELD, PAT. PEND;" fine, original condition.

MARGARET STARK BROOCH

Fabulous brooch by Margaret Stark; design is etched into layered paint colors of pink and red with flakes of silver and gold; about 3-3/4" x 1-7/8"; etched on top in front: "M. Stark," and also etched on back, "Original Painting by Margaret Stark, WINFIELD-Pat. Pend.;" fine conditiion.

Margaret Stark created many brilliantly colored abstract collages and paintings for Winfield Fine Art in Jewelry.  She was a New York City native, born in 1915. Stark studied at the Art Students League and also with the  famous German-born painter Hans Hofmann who also taught the famous abstract expressionists Clifford Still and Jackson Pollock. She exhibited at the Carnegie Institute in 1944-1946, the Whitney Museum of American Art in 1944-45, and the Museum of Modern Art in 1944.
