Jeff Markel brooch for Winfield Fine Art in Jewelry; paint, agate, feather, paper, rose-cut brads other materials encased in acrylics, c. 1946; approximately 2-1/4" x 2-7/8"; artist signed: "JEFF, 46" on back of art, also etched in plastics: "Designed by JEFF, WINFIELD, Pat. Pend.; some light surface wear--a little oval-shaped pop in the acrylics over the tigers eye agate; otherwise fine condition. Jeff Markel's pendants and brooches are both cubist and biomorphic and the influence of Miro can be seen as well as that of Maholy-Nagy whose photograms inspired Margaret De Patta to use screens as design elements in her jewelry. This brooch is pictured in my book, Modernist Jewelry, 1930 - 1960, The Wearable Art Movement on page 112. $450.00 (item #WFA21) |
