A large, rare, and beautiful large cast and
forged brooch by mid 20th century jeweler and enamelist, Mary Kretsinger;
I believe that it is made from forged and cast copper or bronze with
various applied patinas and also some gold wash; about 3-1/4" diameter x
almost 1/4" thick, forged C-catch; marked with Mary Kretsinger's
conjoined "MK" mark; fine condition.
Mary Kretsinger (1915-2001) was one
of the most respected experimental enamelists of her generation. With
successful teaching and art careers spanning more than fifty
years, she dedicated her life to her art and the advancement of
modernist philosophies in jewelry. (Read a complete biography iof
Mary Kretsinger and see more photographs of her work in my book,
