1950s sterling and banded agate pendant by Henry Steig; pendant is approximately 2-1/2" long x 1-1/2" wide, 16" sterling chain; agate has a few tiny chips on top edge and minute chips on the bottom edge, some of which may have occurred when the stone was cut; marked: "STEIG, STERLING."

Henry Steig had a studio and shop in New York City from the 1950s-1970s. Steigs jewelry style during the 1950s and early 1960s was consistent with the period.  "He forged round silver wire into gracefully twisted curves modulating the surface by hammering certain portions flat......" (Messengers of Modernism, American Studio Jewelry, 1940-1960 by Toni Greenbaum, pg. 102)
