It is rare to find a wonderful little ring like this by Sam Kramer who wrote about wrapping stones with wire in an article titled, Gems in New Contexts, Craft Horizons, Vol. 12, No. 5, 1952; ring is about size 5-3/4; top is approximately 3/4" x 3/4"; band is 3/16" wide; marked with Sam Kramer's mushroom mark and "STERLING," fine condition. In the aforementioned article, Kramer said, "The bezel, that band of metal which encases the girdle of a stone, cannot readily be accommodated to the craggy outlines of a chunk of gem rough. Instead the problem solved itself by means of silver, gold, or brass wires, some heavy and some light, which can be manipulated around the stone--criss-crossed, woven, threaded and tied, capturing the stone in a net or cage."
