Rare and important modernist necklace by Philip Paval, sterling silver, c. 1950s; large pendant section is about 2-1/4" wide x 3" long; smaller pendant hangs down about 2-1/4" and is about 5/8" wide; chain stretches to 22" (including pendant part) when fully open; the piece is marked "PaVaL;"some surface wear, but otherwise fine condition. Philip Paval was born in Copenhagen, but immigrated to the United States in 1919 where he lived in Los Angeles and had his own studio shop in Hollywood creating jewelry and hollowware for celebrities such as Rudolph Valentina, Elizabeth Taylor, William Randolph Hearst and Marion Davies. Paval had several solo and two-person exhibitions in prominent museums in Pasadena and Los Angels and was in many other exhibits and shows. His work is in many important museum collections such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Newark Museum. SOLD (item #M0147) |
