Quetzalcoatl (feathered serpent)
brooch by master Mexican silversmith Jorge "Chato" Castilllo; great
detail and repoussage; designed for Ingrid's Silver shop in Taxco; about
3-1/2" long; marked: "MADE BY CHATO"
and "INGRID'S SILVER;" the hinge end
of the pin stem may have been reattached and there are a few scratches
on the reverse, otherwise fine condition. Jorge, "Chato" Castillo is considered one of the greatest of the Taxco silversmiths, earning the title El Maestro Chato. "He was considered a genius not only for his technical brilliance, but for the variety of designs he produced."
